Petitio Principii et Ipse Dixit
It is quite puzzling for me to see eristic personalities holding positions of authority. The rationale behind this occurrence is summarized in ad captum vulgi loqui. Also though are the obvious instances when the person achieves through vulgar self-assertion, having no formal acquaintance with rhetoric, and sometimes just a few years of undergraduate diversion in business classes, some intermediate position which allows a daily indulgence in the sad practice of lording it over a small group of subordinates. Your duty (!) is to look past the abject fear on their faces, that look of recognition, when you vigorously stress this point: it is not the body giving birth to the ersatz reasoning that is at issue, it is the ersatz reasoning itself. Proceed, then, to insist upon supportive argument, and do not be the first to decamp.
